#nerdfighters are cool and all #but it’s cool if you aren’t one
- A nerd
- Not a nerd
quite!
though I think a lot of people misinterpret the “nerdfighters” philosophy as “we are people who wear glasses and are socially awkward and love math and harry potter and english literature”
it sort of started out that way, but since then I think the major ideology of the community has become something more to the tune of “we are people who value rationality and sensibility as opposed to vapidity and hostility, and who promote knowledge and the furthering of information as tool to combat both personal and global issues”
I think a lot of people get stuck in the “peeps and things on heads and in your pants and giraffes” layer of the community and are either put off by the barrage of memetic in-jokes or simply adopt that as their entire view of the community, which I think sort of takes away from the more universal, inclusive values that the nerdfighter philosophy is fundamentally based on.

Look, whilst I agree with everything that’s been said, I also think that the nerdfighter community is getting a little high-and-mighty. It’s almost like an exclusive group, that’s all - like, you have to fit the requirements or else you can’t join…
you are either agreeing with me or wholly misinterpreting what I’m saying and I can’t tell which
What requirements do you have to fit to be a nerdfighter? If you go check them out on youtube and think ‘hey, this is something I could get involved in’, and you enjoy their videos, you agree with things they say, you want to be able to make a change where you see fit, you get excited about things with the community, etc etc… I don’t think it even matters if you don’t really talk to other nerdfighters, for whatever reason…. If you feel you’re a nerdfighter, then you are.
I’ve never felt the need to meet any requirements. I’m not hugely involved in things like gatherings and ‘your pants’ and stuff like that, but I enjoy watching John and Hank, I enjoy the things they have to say, I’m a supporter of learning about anything and everything, and I believe what John and Hank, and other members of Nerdfighteria do is amazing and something I can really get behind and support. I’ve never seen an online community more inclusive, to be honest.
Everything you just said ^. I think that we just love everyone and everything is beautiful. Sometimes people...
